Nuttin' like a musical round robin in the Arizona sunshine!

Our good friend Ray Cody hosted a musician's "Round Robin" at his place Sunday. What a great time with good friends, good grub, better beer, and some playin' and a-singin'. It's the first time I've done it, and as I was packing my guitar afterwards, I was already looking forward to the next one.

We all gathered a few weeks ago at Guedo's in Chandler to hear RocketMan play his guitar and ever-present ukulele, and he called for requests. I jokingly called out "How about Rocket Man?" You see, Rocket Man's moniker has nothing to do with Elton John or that song. Rocket Man, ever the good sport, said he couldn't quite sing that high, which of course brought on offers to assist by clamping capos in the right spots, etc. Anyway, the incomparable Rocket Man's first offering at the Round Robin was a rise to the challenge.I've never heard Rocket Man played on a ukulele, but he pulled it off, and it was a great way to get the afternoon rolling!

My selections were:

Wrangell Mountain Song (John Denver) OK, it's not Trop-Rock. It's Arctic-Rock.

Barefoot Children In the Rain (Jimmy Buffett)

Schooner Wharf Bar Dog (Michael McCloud)

Spanish Pipe Dream (John Prine) With Ray on banjo, this one was the most fun for me.

Turn Around and Run (Kelly McGuire)

Hollow Man (Boat Drunks)

Who Am I? (Jack Moseley)

I was given some assignments to work on - namely inproving my timing - and I'm already getting started on that.

Folks, if you like good music and friends, and if you play anything from a guitar to a tambourine to a shaker to a vibraslap to a knee slap and a foot tap, you gotta do one of these.
