Tried Something New
I've heard several references lately to this thing called Facebook, but I had no idea what it was. So this morning, I wandered on over there to see what all the fuss is about, used a pseudonym and a secondary email address I have set up for that purpose, and signed in.
I don't get it.
There was a place where you could search for former high school classmates, so what the hell? I typed in my class of 1973. Nothing. Tried 1974. Zip. 1975? Nada. Likewise for 1976 through 1984, when I finally gave up and just typed in Class of 2004, and the floodgates opened. It seems Facebook is too young for me. Hell, it's too young for my kids.
I used to get an email now and then from Classmates, telling me about how some former high school buddy of mine was looking for his old classmates. I'd take the bait and go to their website, only to find they wanted me to pay them for like a year's service to even read the guy's profile. Screw that. I didn't like him all that much in 1973. I ain't paying my hard-earned money to find out I like him even less 34 years later.
Maybe I should start an old guy Facebook-type operation. No one under 40 need apply.
